AN HOUR WITH JOHN BOYNE
Irish fiction writer John Boyne is the author of seven novels for adults, revolving around figures as disparate as Buffalo Bill and Harvey Crippen, and three for younger readers. The first of these, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, published in 2006, was embraced by all ages. It was shortlisted for or won a host of international awards, topped the New York Times Bestseller List, has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide and has been made into an award-winning film.
Born in Dublin in 1971, John Boyne studied English Literature at Trinity College, Dublin, and creative writing at the University of East Anglia. He has also published some 70 short stories and his novels have been translated into 45 languages. John’s most recent novel for adults, The Absolutist, set in the First World War, has been described by Colm Toibin as ‘a wonderful, sad, tender book’. His latest title, The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket, is a funny, fast-paced, warm-hearted story with colourful, Dahl-esque characters.
