Exhibitions: BIBLIA ABIBLIA – Books that are not books
This rich and engaging exhibition challenges our perceptions of what makes a book by introducing people to non-traditional techniques of book making. Invited artists
Bing Dawe, Graham Bennett, Maureen Lander, Dorle Pauli, Wayne Youle, Tony Bond, Katharina Jaeger, Kiri Te Wake, Phil Aitken, Carol King and Ying Hua Jiang have created altered books from volumes no longer in use at the CPIT library. Viewers will have an opportunity to learn about the techniques of art books and the myriad of shapes, form and content they take. Biblia Abiblia also showcases books by local and international book artists held by CPIT Artwork Collection and private collections, alongside a selection of student work from the Book Art and Printmaking programme that is part of the Bachelor of Design at CPIT. Completing the show is photographic and filmed footage of the processes involved in the making of a handmade book, and showing the complete contents of the books on display.
