AN HOUR WITH CHRIS TURNEY


British geologist Professor Chris Turney is ‘fascinated by what makes our planet tick’ and has spent his research career ‘exploring what happened when’. He is an Australian Research Council Laureate Fellow and Professor of Climate Change at the University of New South Wales and the author of the popular science books Bones, Rocks and Stars
and Ice, Mud and Blood. His new book is 1912: The Year the World Discovered Antarctica. His particular interest is in past and future climates, how people have responded to change, and recent human evolution and migration. In 2007 he was the first recipient of the International Union for Quaternary Research Sir Nicholas Shackleton Medal, in 2008 he received a Philip Leverhulme Prize for contributions to understanding the earth’s climate and in2009 he was awarded the Geological Society of London’s Bigsby Medal for services to geology.
