Keri Hulme, Booker Prize-winning author of The Bone People, and poet and writer of seven other books, joins celebrated poet and author of kÅiwi kÅiwi/bone bone, Hinemoana Baker, and poet/writer Gerry Te Kapa Coates, who has written The View From Up There, a collection of stories and poems, for an engaging and inspiring hour of iwi insight.
Keri Hulme’s fiction and poetry are widely published. Her novel, The Bone People, won the 1984 New Zealand Book Award for Fiction and the Booker Prize in 1985. In homage to her mixed heritage, MÄori, Celtic and Norse mythology are threaded through her writing.
Hinemoana Baker is a published poet, singer-songwriter, recording artist and occasional broadcaster. She is the author of two poetry collections and has released five CDs.
Gerry Te Kapa Coates left Te Wai Pounamu in his mid-20s and has lived mostly in Wellington, writing and working as an engineer and director. He published a collection of poems and short stories in 2011 and is working on a new collection and a novel.
Chair: John Huria was senior editor at Huia Publishers before founding Ahi Text Solutions, a publishing consultancy . During a decade at Huia, and subsequently at Ahi, he has worked on a variety of prize-winning and award-nominated books. John is a member of Te Waka Toi, the Maori arts board of Creative New Zealand and is on the advisory committee of the Whitirea Polytechnic Diploma in Publishing and the Writing Programme.
