PwC presents WHOOPS!: WHY EVERYONE OWES EVERYONE AND NO ONE CAN PAY

John Lanchester & Rod Oram

John Lanchester is well known for his prize-winning novels The Debt to Pleasure, Mr Phillips and Fragrant Harbour, but he also writes for the Daily Telegraph and the Guardian, is a keen observer of and commentator on the economic world and has authored a book about the global financial crisis entitled Whoops!: Why everyone owes everyone and no one can pay. Described by Will Self as ‘devastatingly funny – the route map to the crazed world of contemporary finance we have been waiting for’, Whoops! explains, in accessible language, what really happened – and what on earth we do next. John’s latest novel, Capital, has been described as a ‘brainy state of the nation novel’ set in a single street in contemporary South London.

John has worked as a football reporter, obituary writer, book editor, restaurant critic and deputy editor of the London Review of Books, where his pieces still appear. He is a regular contributor to the New Yorker. His books have won the Hawthornden Prize, the Whitbread First Novel Prize, the E. M. Forster Award and the Premi Llibreter, and been translated into 25 languages.

John Lanchester talks with business journalist, commentator and author Rod Oram.

Business journalist Rod Oram contributes weekly to National Radio’s Nine to Noon, the Sunday Star-Times and Newstalk ZB. His central pre-occupations are the world, sustainability in all is forms and New Zealand’s response to them.
